Who is Burrup Nitrates Pty Ltd?
Burrup Nitrates Pty Ltd (BNPL) is a privately owned Australian company with its head office located in Perth, Australia. BNPL is developing a TAN production facility on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha in the Shire of Roebourne, Western Australia. When completed, the TANPF will be owned by BNPL and operated by Burrup Holdings.
Burrup Nitrates Pty Ltd is a 50:50 joint venture between Burrup Holdings Ltd of Australia and Yara International ASA of Norway.
Who is Yara International ASA?
Yara International ASA (Yara) is one of the world's largest chemical companies. Yara is a world leader in the production of TAN and the world's largest supplier of mineral fertiliser. Yara operates four first class technical nitrate production plants in Sweden, Norway, France and Germany, and numerous mineral fertiliser plants worldwide.
Yara and its predecessor companies have been in business since 1905. Yara has been a producer of TAN since the 1960's.
All of Yara's plants have excellent operating histories for responsible environmental management and as a company, have been recognised for the following:
- OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001/ 2000 certified;
- Member of the Behaviour Based Safety program;
- Lost Time Injuries -Yara amongst the leaders for industrial safety when benchmarked against international chemical companies;
- Health and safety audits are routinely carried out by internal and external personnel; and,
- Safety Data Sheet System implemented.
Yara will manage the design, construction and commissioning of the BNPL TAN production facility.
Who is Burrup Holdings Ltd?
Burrup Holdings Ltd (BHL) is a private company formed in Australia in 2000 with majority ownership from the Oswal Group. BHL operates one of the world's largest ammonia production facilities on the Burrup Peninsula through its 100% subsidiary company Burrup Fertilisers Pty Ltd (BFPL). The plant went into operation in 2006 and produces approximately 4% of the total world output of tradable ammonia.
In the last three years of operation, there were zero lost time injuries and within the global ammonia industry, the Burrup plant is regarded as an exemplar of safe and efficient operation.
